When Starting Fresh Means A Change Of Address

When we met Laura, she was in the process of selling the townhouse she owned with her ex-partner. It was the final piece to their separation, and she was hoping to use her portion of the sale for the down payment on a small condo for herself.

This past summer, CMHC attempted to determine the percentage of condos in Canada that are owned by domestic investors. Since then, it has admitted uncertainty of what percentage of condos are owned by foreign investors.

Home insurance policy provides coverage for five main areas:

• The primary dwelling/building
• Other Structures such as storage sheds and detached garage
• Personal property
• Loss of use (if the dwelling is uninhabitable due to damage)
• Personal Liability (if your negligence caused injury to a person or his property)

The home policy is generally an “all perils” type of coverage that includes damage due to fire, theft, wind, hail, hurricanes, water and sewer backup. Earthquake is available for extra premium.

The policy provides replacement cost for both building and contents.
